CSO going too far

@ElaineEdwardsIT has published a fantastic piece in the Irish Times about the Central Statistics Office wanting to collect mobile phone data for foreign citizens visiting Ireland as well as for Irish people travelling abroad so they can get data about Tourism.

The Data Protection Commissioner’s office has been fighting the proposal for 9 years on the grounds that the data can identify individuals, their travel patterns and personal habits and so is too sensitive to be made available.

I’m normally a big fan of the CSO but I’m with Elaine & the DPC on this one…it’s going a step too far.

Must-read material.
